
About the Fund
The First Nations and Métis Fund was publicly announced on May 11, 2006. CIC is providing $20 million to the Fund over the next four years - 2006 through 2009. Investments will be made in new or expanding businesses which are majority-owned or controlled by First Nations or Métis people. To be eligible, the businesses must be in the following key strategic growth sectors:
- value-added agriculture;
- advanced technology;
- energy;
- mining;
- forestry and forestry developments; and;
- manufacturing.
Investments will also be considered in Aboriginal-themed tourism.
CIC is administering and operating the Fund. Westcap Mgt. Ltd. of Saskatoon has been hired as the Fund Manager.
