Governance


CIC is created and governed by The Crown Corporations Act, 1993. CIC’s mandate is defined by the Act as follows:

  • CIC is the holding company for all subsidiary Crown corporations and shall exercise its supervisory powers granted by this Act in the interests of all Saskatchewan residents.
  • CIC is the agency for making and administrating, on behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, the investments authorized by this Act or any previous Crown Corporations Act.

The CIC Board is a key Cabinet committee which acts as a liaison between Cabinet and Crown corporations. The Board’s key responsibilities are to:

  • Set strategic direction for the Crown sector
  • Provide oversight to subsidiary Crown corporations by setting performance expectations, allocating capital within the sector and monitoring and evaluating performance
  • Provide oversight to CIC management by approving business plans and budgets, monitoring and evaluating corporate performance
